November – The Month of the Holy Souls
During November we remember in a special way the Holy Souls in Purgatory.  The prayers we say for them, the sacrifices and pains we offer up for them, the indulgences we obtain for them, and the Masses we ask to be said for them, help them pass more quickly through the purification that prepares them for the happiness of Heaven. Please take one of the ‘November lists’ sheets from the table in the narthex, write in the names of the departed you wish to have remembered at the special Masses in November, place the list in the special Month of the Holy Souls envelopes, and return it to the Presbytery.  The lists will be kept on Our Lady’s altar.

Live-Stream TV Now Installed
The live-stream TV system is now installed and active.  It will be an aid to security, and enable house-bound parishioners to attend Mass ‘virtually’ on their computers.  You can access it 24/7 at https://www.churchservices.tv/oxford

Winton Club for Girls, 8 – 12 Years
Learn new skills (cookery, crafts etc), and make new friends.  Each session will include a short talk on Christian life.  The venue is Winton, 114 Banbury Road, OX2 6JU (01865 513410).  The time is 4.15 – 5.45 p.m. every Wednesday during school term.  The pastoral care of the club is entrusted to Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic Church.

Still they sigh and long for the happiness of their eternal home,
for the company of the blessed saints, for Jesus whom at last they know.
To be separated from Him is now their most grievous pain,
exceeding far the torture of the cleansing fires.

Fr William Doyle SJ on the Holy Souls in Purgatory
Fr Doyle was chaplain to the 16th Irish Division,
and was killed at the Battle of Ypres on 16th August 1917,
having run ‘all day hither and thither over the battlefield like an angel of mercy’.
